Season 2016/2017

Season 2016/2017. Paul plays deep, throwing long balls, mostly in a 4-3-3 formation with Herrera/Carrick or Fellaini. When Pogba goes forward, he is insured by any of the remaining couple, since everyone knows how to do it. Zlatan scores under 30 goals per season, being the top scorer, Rooney is still in the team, able to work as much as necessary and for whom it is convenient, Carrick, Valencia. In the final stretch of the season, Zlatan breaks down, Pogba and Mkhitaryan score each goal in the Europa League final, the team takes 3 trophies in the first season at United. One of the best Pogba seasons (or even the best?) in Manchester.

Season 2017/2018

Season 2017/2018. Pogba plays as the 8th number (box-2-box) in a 4-3-3 formation. Thanks to the presence of Fellaini and Herrera taking turns replacing Pogba paired with Matic, the Frenchman can dangerously move forward, shoot from afar, and play on the counter. With excellent positioning and incredible flair and shooting, Zlatan was replaced by a more running Lukaku, Lingard had his best season for United, Rashford and Martial supported the counter-attacks and finished them in great style. United transformed into a more counter-attacking side with the loss of Rooney and Midget. Pogba looked great right before Jose Mourinho began to make more demands on the physical component and working out in defense. But Herrera’s mobility and Matic’s experience, coupled with his counter-attacking style of play, managed to keep United in second place. The team is 19 points behind City.

Season 2018/2019

Season 2018/2019. Pogba plays in the same 4-3-3 with the same partners, but Carrick left, and Fred was bought to replace him. Matic and Herrera are able to insure Pogba’s advances, but he is less likely to come back and lose his place in the starting XI as a result. Jose also tried him in 4-2-3-1 as a second defensive midfielder next to Matic, so that he would start attacks together with the Serb from the depth, but the balance was greatly lost, and in the position of 10th number Pogba was inferior to his partners: in creativity – Mate, speed – Lingard, in power – Fellaini. In his last match as manager of United against Liverpool, Jose did not let Pogba even come in as a substitute, preferring Fellaini. Further, the club made a choice in favor of the Frenchman in the escalated conflict and sent Jose Mourinho to resign. The second half of that season was a renaissance for Pogba and for Manchester United. Solskjaer was able to push Pogba forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation, using Matic and Herrera as two defensive midfielders, occasionally using Pol in depth with Fred. Under Olya, the team began to score much more, playing attacking football. But the balance was still not enough, so one of the flank players was almost always Lingard, who was able to cover the middle of the field. Pogba’s season ended as Manchester United’s best in goals (16) and assists (12). An achievement that the Frenchman will never again block. Of the 16 goals, exactly half came from penalties.
