Lukaku double sees Inter win at Udinese
Romelu Lukaku struck twice as Inter Milan won at Udinese to maintain the pressure on Juventus at the top of Serie A.
Lukaku, the Belgian striker, bagged a brace in seven second-half minutes as Inter ran out 2-0 winners away.
There were starts for January signings-Christian Eriksen, Victor Moses and Ashley Young. Meanwhile, Conte aimed to keep Juventus in check after they beat Fiorentina 3-0 earlier in the day.
However, it was Lukaku who ensured victory. The natural striker scored with a close-range shot before adding his second with a penalty.
Inter had drawn their last three matches 1-1 before Sunday’s clash. Lukaku’s double ensured Juventus remain three points clear at the top of the table.
Lukaku was helped by some poor goalkeeping by the hosts’ Juan Musso for his first. On his second, he got assistance from Alexis Sanchez.
Speaking before the game, former Italy star and World Cup winner, Gianluca Zambrotta made a comment on Lukaku. He said the striker will be key to Inter lifting their Serie A title since 2010.
With the Belgian’s form still looking strong, Zambrotta claims there was no need to rush through a deal for Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
He said, “Lukaku’s arrival brought an important piece of what Conte was asking for. A physically strong central striker that makes the ball go forward, assists teammates, moves 30 meters on the pitch alone, gets to the shot and scores.”
“He is an important player for Conte. If Inter is to be competitive again to hurt Juventus, there has to be a squad made up of great players.”
“Giroud would certainly be a strong purchase, perhaps in the summer market. But Inter hasn’t had a repair market. Instead, they have a market with important purchases.”
