Klopp: I fell for Pep Guardiola and his squad
Jurgen Klopp feels for Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City squad players after the club’s suspension from Europe.
Klopp feels for Pep and his Manchester City squad after Liverpool’s closest rivals were handed a two-year ban from the Champions League.
The German spoke from a place of comfort after his side pulled 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Nonetheless, City plans to appeal against the ban and have 10 days to take the issue to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Klopp, whose side looks set to succeed City as domestic champions this season feels that is a shame.
“It was a shock when I heard it. At this moment I imagine it’s very hard for them.” Said Klopp.
“I have no idea how these things work. What I can say is Manchester City under Pep Guardiola plays sensational football. I’ve always admired what they do.”
“To be honest, I feel for Pep and the players because, wow, they did, for sure, nothing wrong. They just played football and sensational football.”
“Pep helped the league to improve football.” Added the German.
Former City midfielder, Joey Barton feels sad for English football that City will not be involved in the elite competition. The Fleetwood manager said, “I don’t like the thought of seeing City, not in the Champions League.”
“They are one of the best sides of our country. So, it is a strange one because when that size of a club with that level of a manager and players, you have to be in Europe’s major competition.”
“For English football, you want your best teams in that competition.”
The ban has sparked speculation about Guardiola’s future and a number of star players. There are also fears it could hamper their ability to recruit their top targets in the transfer market.
