Does Alexis Sanchez still have a future at Manchester United?
Alexis Sanchez left Man United for Inter Milan on loan in 2019. However, the Old Trafford might be an easier environment to return to for the Chilean whose contract at United expires in 2022.
Solskjaer was criticized for saying Alexis Sanchez would be back at United this summer on the evidence he may have pushed things by claiming the Chilean will prove people wrong.
Back in Inter Milan, Sanchez’s injury has limited his first-team opportunities this season. With all roads pointing his return to Old Trafford, the injury saw him miss 14 games for Inter.
The economics of the deal that brought him from Arsenal to United in January 2018 was eye-watering. Moreover, they became more extreme when he pulled on his red number 7 shirt 45 times in that period and scoring only five goals.
What Sanchez had to deal with in his first-time round were the expectations that came with his signing and money wrapped up in it. He had to contend with Jose Mourinho leaving and a new boss with new ideas. It seemed like the 31-year-old played with United’s full weight on his shoulder.
United is now a different place to be and the mood has changed for the better. The team is now with a bit of more character. Players are prepared to take risks and there is a collective desire for what is being done at the pitch.
Sanchez is a seasoned professional with stints at major clubs under his belt. He has two years left in United. In this case, it might be an easier environment for the Chilean to return to. Given that his experience and talent would benefit the younger players coming through, he will be of a great deal.
At thirty-one, will it be wise to see out his remaining contract with the Red Devils? Will he consider getting another move somewhere else?
Definitely, his high wage demand has and will be a huge stumbling block for most teams to express their interest in him unless Sanchez will be ready to take a pay cut.
