Tottenham forward, Son Heung-min is set to complete a four-week military service in South Korea during football’s coronavirus shutdown.

Having won gold with South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games, Son was exempted from the extended 21-month military service. However, the goal scorer is still required to complete a four-week service in the military.

Son was cleared by Tottenham to return to his homeland last weekend for personal reasons. As he recovers from the arm injury, Son awaits Premier League confirmation for the season extension beyond 30 April.

The Premier League is widely expected to suspend the season beyond its current date as meetings with the EFL, PFA and LMA continue this week.

This will allow a perfect moment for the forward to carry out his military service and then return to London in time for the League’s resumption. He hopes to kick off on April 20 and will serve in the country’s military corps.

It has been a turbulent few weeks for Son who was only back in London for a few weeks having returned from arm surgery. Upon his return in the UK, he was forced into two weeks of isolation as per the government measures. Son then spent a week at Tottenham’s training complex before it was closed following instructions to stay home.

The enforced break has however worked in his favor. He will almost certainly be fit when the action restarts having originally expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Son uploaded pictured and a video on Instagram this week showing him sipping without a cast on his arm.

On the League’s resume day, Tottenham will head back to their situation where they were kicked out of all cup competitions and nowhere to be found in the Premier League top four.
