“I’m healthy. It feels unreal!” Former Leeds and Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo reveals he has been given the all-clear after recovering from a brain tumor after six months of treatment.

Dominic Matteo revealed he has been given the all-clear after being diagnoses with a brain tumor six months ago. The 45-year-old was taken seriously ill in November and underwent surgery.

Having been given the good news, Matteo shared his health update with his Twitter followers. He thanked the staff at Leeds General Infirmary and St Jame’s Hospital for “saving my life.”

“Yesterday, I got a phone call. The one I have been praying for. My brain scan is clear.” Tweeted the former Leeds and Liverpool defender.

“After 6 months of fear, pain, rehab, surgery and treatment. I’m healthy. It feels unreal.”

“The LGI and St. James hospital saved my life. They were simply incredible. Thankyou will never be enough.”

Following his tweet, well-wishers replied to the post to congratulate Matteo on the good news.

One well-wisher wrote, “I know exactly how he feels. So pleased for Dominic Matteo. The LGI and St. James’ hospital is amazing places.”

Meanwhile, comedian Jon Richardson wrote, “A very welcome bit of good news. Congratulations Dom. That’s fantastic.”

During his career period, Matteo made his senior Liverpool debut in October 1993 and made 155 appearances in seven years before joining Leeds in 2000.

He was a regular at Elland Road, playing 146 times in four years. He helped David O’Leary’s side into the Champions League semi-finals in 2001. Here, Matteo scored a famous goal against AC Milan in the San Siro on the way.

However, the former defender was part of the side that was relegated in 2004 before moving on to Blackburn and then Stoke before hanging up his boots in 2009.

The former Liverpool and Leeds defender was capped six times by Scotland despite having earned Under 21 caps for England.
