De Gea has re-affirmed his commitment to Manchester United as he hopes to remain in the club for many more years.

During his career, De Gea has endured a tough campaign at the Theatre of Dreams. He has suffered a number of high-profile mistakes on numerous occasions.

Despite the mistakes, Solskjaer decided not to let go De Gea though many have claimed he should be replaced by Dean Henderson who is on loan at Sheffield United. The Norwegian still has him as his number 1. However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the 29-year-old.

Amid the talks, De Gea was happy to reflect on his time at the club making it clear he wants a long-term stay at the club.

When asked how he felt about his 10th year anniversary at United approaching, he joked, “I’m getting older”.

“Just to be part of this club is amazing. So imagine being here for nearly 10 years-its like a dream. It’s great to play games with this club, so I hope I can be here for more years.”

De Gea responds to Covid-19 effect

Reflecting on football’s enforced break due to coronavirus, De Gea said, “It’s something special to always be at home.”

“But I think now the most important thing is people’s health, in Spain and here in England as well. So, while it’s a bit strange, but we need to keep doing some things at home. To keep training, to keep fit, for when we get back. But it’s a bit strange.”

“My family and friends are very good but there are a lot of people who are in a difficult situation with the virus and with everything.”

“What’s happening now is something unreal. But that’s life at the moment. So, I want to send a strong message to them to keep fighting and hopefully, everything is going to finish soon.”

Come next season, De Gea will have marked a decade since he joined United as he looks forward to building on his 394 appearances for the club.

The United first-choice goalkeeper is on a contract until 2023 and will be 32 when the deal expires.
