Mikel Arteta on a standstill over David Luiz future in Arsenal
Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta admits David Luiz’s career at Emirates stadium could be over. However, the coach is held in between letting him go and keeping him at the stadium.
David Luiz had a nightmare evening against Man City when the League resumed on Wednesday. The defender was sent off and now faces a ban after his disastrous appearance as a substitute which conceded a penalty.
His coach, Arteta has admitted Luiz might have played his last game in Arsenal. However, the coach still made it clear that he wants to keep the 33-year-old, a decision that may come down to money as a result of financial constraints.
This leaves the Brazilian sweating on his Arsenal future as he becomes a free agent at the end of the month and unless it can be resolved, he may be leaving the Emirates.
Asked if Luiz played his last game for Arsenal, Arteta responded, “I don’t know. He is very open, he is a leader and I was sure he was going to speak in front of everybody. He was very direct. That is what I value from him and that’s what I like from him. We need to be fair on him”.
“Me personally I am going to defend him with everything I have. I believe in him. He has shown me a lot of things in his time here and his career speaks for itself”.
Ray Parlour disagrees with Arteta’s stance on Luiz.
Former Arsenal midfielder, Ray Parlour explains he can’t understand why Arteta continues to keep faith in the center-back, Luiz.
In his opinion, Parlour feels it would be a mistake to keep the Brazilian at the Emirates.
He said, “his age is well against him. It depends on what sort of money he wants. I’m sure he’s on a very good contract at Arsenal. So, he’s not going to get less money”.
“I think he says he wants a two-year deal as well. It’s a massive decision Arsenal have got to make. If I was Arsenal, I would be saying no. He’s had some good games when I’ve been over there at the Emirates. But for me, he makes too many mistakes at wrong times and he doesn’t learn from it”.
“As I said when he signed he will make mistakes and he will cost you at times but that’s why they brought him in to give that bit of experience. I’ve heard he’s a great lad around the dressing room”.
“Luiz is very successful in England. But I just think it’s time for Arsenal to say no. We want to improve.”
