Manchester City will welcome Norwich to the Etihad Stadium later this afternoon. The match will be David Silva’s final appearance for the Sky Blues after the Spain international decided not to extend his contract beyond 2020 last summer citing desire to undertake a new challenge before he hangs up his boots.

Silva is a pioneer of the most successful generation in the club’s history having arrived from Valencia in 2010 for a reported £24 million fee.

Ten-years-on Silva has earned the recognition for his immense contribution to Manchester City’s abundant domestic success by gaining the legend status.

During his 10-year stint at Etihad, the 34-year-old has racked up over 630 appearances for the Sky Blues and lifted 13 major domestic titles.

He has contributed 77 goals along with a staggering 140 assists.

Although the coronavirus pandemic prevents Manchester City’s fanbase from saying goodbye to their beloved hero, the emotions are boiling over all over social media.

Worshipped by the fans for everything he has given to the Manchester City colors, Silva has thanked supporters in the build-up to his farewell match.

“They have shown me so much respect. And respect is the most important thing for me”. Said Silva.

“They have shown me and my family respect wherever we go and then on the pitch too. I am grateful for all of this and. Thank you to all the supporters, to the club, to the workers here at the club because they have made my life much easier”.

“I will be Blu-Blue Forever”.

Manchester City will always be grateful for Silva-Guardiola

City’s head-coach has talked up the effect the midfielder has had at the club ahead of his final Premier League outing.

When asked to summarize the veteran performer’s impact at City over the past decade, the Spanish head-coach said, “the number of games, the huge quality in the games he played, the title he helped win, he’s alongside five or six others who made this club what it is now”.

“And this club will always be grateful”.
