Nic Maddinson was a “smokey” to be chosen for one of Australia’s subcontinent Test trips, according to Victoria coach Chris Rogers, at the start of the year.
Recently, Nick Maddinson scored 158* runs in two innings without being dismissed by the lethal Victorian bowling attack. His 110 not out in the first inning was wonderfully built.
The former test opener further added that he has never seen Maddinson bat better than this. Alongside his power hitting, Maddinson has the ability to build up the innings and he can take firm position in playing the role of an anchor.
Maddinson joined Victoria four years ago; and since then, he has played a vital role as left-gander batsman. He can be aggressive at moments, most importantly, he knows how to pick the weak link in the bowling line-up.
His consistency speaks for his talent. He has scored a mammoth 2,208 run in Marsh Sheffield Shield with an impressive average of 66.90. Surely, selectors will have an eye on this talent for the upcoming series.
He has been in terrific form this year. Alone in this year, playing only 4 matches, Maddinson has scored 492 runs with an astounding average of 98.4. His composure and method has been praise deserving. One of his fiery innings of 71 of 46 balls came against the England Lions in December. At the time, he was playing for Australia A.
Having a clear mindset, the 30 years old left hander scored his 7th century for Victoria. It looks surprising that he scored a total of 8 centuries in his 8 years career with New South Wales. Since joining Victoria in the 2017-18 season, he has performed magnificently.
His performance carries sufficient evidence that he is ready for international challenge in test cricket. The whole Australian team is in form after a long time. His addition to the team will surely strengthen the middle order. His character development as an individual cricketer has received praise from a number of Aussie cricketers.
