Haaland has the opportunity to change clubs
Following Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Greuther Furth on Wednesday, Erling Haaland was spotted waving to all four ends of Signal Iduna Park in what was interpreted as a farewell gesture after netting a brace to hand his team all three points. However, the club’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, reassured fans after Dortmund’s last game in 2021 that the Norway international will stay put in the January transfer window. “I asked him what was behind the gesture, and he answered nothing at all,” Zorc told reporters. “Of course he will stay. Of course, we would like him to stay at Dortmund in the summer. We don’t have to give him up, not for financial reasons either. But we also know that under certain conditions, he has the opportunity to change clubs, and we will certainly have talks with him in the coming weeks.”
Everyone talks about Erling
“We have a long-term contract with him, so he has to act first and not us. Everything would be fine for Dortmund if it stays that way.” Meanwhile, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed in an interview that Real Madrid is among the teams tracking Haaland. “Everyone is talking about Erling Haaland,” began Watzke. “No matter where I go, everyone talks about Erling Haaland. All I know as a guarantee is that Real Madrid are very interested in him. I could name 25 other teams now, but I know that for sure.” However, like Zorc, Watzke opened the door for the 21-year-old to stay at the club beyond the summer. “He might leave, but he might also stay.
