Lukaku, 29, admits to having forced Inter’s hand after learning that interest from Chelsea was serious during the summer transfer window, with the Belgian forward determined to complete the £ 98m move.
What did Romelu Lukaku say?
This offer ultimately proved enough for the Serie A champions to part with a valuable asset, with three previous bids that had been rebuffed. Romelu Lukaku began to fear that a deal would never be struck, which would lead him to seek negotiations with those at the center of the debate as his heart began to return to Stamford Bridge.
Romelu Lukaku said about returning to Chelsea 10 years after Romelu first contacted the Blues, that with the third proposal Chelsea Romelu knew it was serious and was no longer there. Chelsea offered € 110 million plus Zappacosta, but Inter said no, so Romelu went to Inzaghi’s office asking for an agreement. Lukaku was still at Inter, but his head was already in London. Inter pulled him out of sh * t, Romelu would only have left the Nerazzurri for Chelsea.
Chelsea’s interest in Romelu
Chelsea first signed Romelu Lukaku back in 2011 when he was a promising teenager, bursting into the senior scene at Anderlecht. Lukaku took on just 15 goalless appearances for the Blues before going on loan to West Brom and Everton, with a permanent move to Goodison Park in 2014. After his stock continued to rise, the move to Man Utd was completed in 2017 and Romelu became a member of the Premier League club, in which he scored 100 goals.
His qualities were never fully appreciated at Old Trafford, and he left for Inter after two seasons with the Red Devils. Two years in Italy, he scored 64 goals in 95 appearances, along with a Serie A title triumph, and those exploits convinced Chelsea that he was worth another shot. The 28-year-old Romelu is already up and running back into English football, with a debut goal scored against Arsenal, and the expectation is that he will help sack the Champions League winners for the Premier League title in 2021-22.
