Arsenal will soon sit down with William Saliba, who is eager to find out what the club’s plans are for its long-term future.

What did William Saliba say?

The French footballer has said he will be happy to stay at Marseille as the Arsenal defender waits to hear what his parent club’s plans are for his future. The French defender signed for Arsenal in 2019 and has since spent most of his time in his native France, taking spells with Saint-Étienne, Nice and OM on loan to become one of Ligue 1’s top centers. However, despite the accolades and his contract with the Gunners running until 2024, there is speculation if he will return to north London at the end of the season.

William Saliba said that he has never hidden that he feels good here. But he doesn’t know his future. There are two months of the season left and the most important thing is to qualify for the Champions League and go as far as possible in the Europa League conference. William thinks there will be discussions between Arsenal and Marseille in late May or early June. Then they will decide.

According to William Saliba, of course, staying here with Marseille would not be a bad idea – quite the contrary. Saliba knows the city, his teammates, his coach… but it doesn’t just depend on him. When it was pointed out to William that OM would obviously prefer to hold on to him, he added that yes, everyone, but we’ll see how it goes. Depends on whether Arsenal agrees.

A little about the topic

The 20-year-old’s performances in France this season have seen him rewarded with a call-up from the national side and the upcoming talks will shed light on whether Arsenal sees a long-term future in the Emirates. However, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White forming a powerful partnership at the heart of Arteta’s defense, it’s unclear if Saliba will make it into Arsenal’s starting XI.
