Alongside plethora of runs, Bancroft has matured in terms of how to build up an innings and 4 centuries of 20 Sheffield Shield matches validate his form.
Having played his last test match in 2019, Bancroft has found his way through with excellent performances at all levels of domestic cricket in Australia.
The strength is there, and being part of this legendary Western Australia squad has helped him over the time to develop his charecter as a player.
The way he has performed, it wil be hard to not consider his name for upcoming Ashes tour. The middle order muddle was shocking for Australia in India and Cricket Australia will be certainly keen to fix it before it gets exploited in the Ashes.
An elated Adam Voges reflected on Bancroft’s performance and said, “Cameron’s been building to a season like this for a little while now. Technically I think he’s in a much better space and potentially has been previously. He get some scores early, he has scored four hundreds, leading run scorer.
“The confidence that that comes with and batting out here particularly opening the batting is not the easiest thing in the world to do. So for him to be able to overcome those challenges and then really go on and convert some of those stats into big scores really, really plays for him and I’ve said it probably 10 times this week. I think he deserves a spot on the plane to to go to England in the winter.”
Number wise, Cameron Bancroft may not look impressive in international cricket. His ambition was cut short due to sandpaper saga but since then it has been case of pure development for him.
Playing his last Ashes five years ago, Bancroft could only score 223 runs in 7 matches at an average of 20.27. Things have changed since then, in Sheffield Shield 2022-23, Bancroft went on score 945 runs in 20 innings an a superb average of 59.06.
Moving ahead in future, Western Australia coach added, “I think you’re always more ready the second time around. He’ll learn from these experiences and he’ll certainly be much better for it. So yeah, I think he’s ready to go. I think this is the most consistent I have seen him bat.”
Talking about his strengths, there aren’t much who doubt about it. Back to back victorious seasons with WA will have Cameron Bancroft in full confidence. He’s truly a gun fielder and someone who can take the game away from the opposition’s in matter of time.
“I think he’s always had those really remarkable powers of concentration and ability to bat for long periods of time. And now that he’s technically in a better place, I think that just allows him to to be able to draw on that strength,” Voges added.
