After leaving the Gunners, Alexandre Lacazette returned to Lyon
Alexandre Lacazette is leaving Arsenal after five years in north London and has completed a return to League 1.
A little about Alexandre Lacazette
The French player ended up moving back to Lyon, returning on a free transfer after the Gunners’ departure. Alexandre Lacazette’s contract with Arsenal expired on 30 June and he was allowed to leave the club. Alexandre said in April that he had been in talks with more clubs, and Lyon were seen as leaders signing him for some time.
Term of Alexander’s contract with Lyon
Lacazette has penned a three-year contract to return to the Ligue 1 side until 2025. The France international arrived via Lyon’s youth system to make 275 first-team appearances before being signed by Arsenal in 2017.
Lacazette’s activities at the Arsenale
There were many good moments for Alexandre Lacazette and his form in 2018-19 saw him voted for the club’s Player of the Year. Yet there will always be a feeling that the striker really didn’t live up to the hype.
The Frenchman’s highest scoring score in the PL was just 14 and it came in his very first season in north London. For someone who was worth what was then the club’s £46.5m registry fee, that’s not really high enough.
What last season has shown is that Alexandre is now some way past his best with the 30-year-old scoring just four goals in the league, three of which have been from the penalty mark. It’s been clear for some time now that the Gunners need a major shake-up in the striker’s department and the changing of the guard up front is due to happen this summer.
The France international has been a popular member of the team and chances are that the Gunners will now give him good references as he makes his return to Lyon, but no one will shed a tear that he went.
If Arsenal are going to return the competition with the very best, then they need a world class striker to lead them. Alexandre Lacazette, unfortunately, has shown that he is far from that level in our time.
