Ajinkya Rahane

In interesting trivia, India has never lost a Test match whenever Ajinkya Rahane has scored either a century or captained his team. One of the mainstays of Indian Test batsmen, Rahane has been phenomenal over the years for India.

During the 2014, Border-Gavasker Trophy, the Mumbai-born stylish batsman scored 147 runs in just 171 balls and forged an immense 262-run partnership with Virat Kohli during the first innings. During the India tour of Sri Lanka, Rahane scored 126 runs off 243 balls in the second innings as India secured a commanding victory by 278 runs.

Writing History In Australia

When Virat Kohli left captaincy during Australia tour, Rahane rose up to captain and authored the infamous series victory, when they defeated the Australians 2-1. Rahane scored a magnificent century in the first innings of the Melbourne Test and guided India to a miracle win in Melbourne. What followed was one of the most incredible upsets seen in Test history, with India bouncing back to win the second match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground by eight wickets, Rahane leading the charge for the comeback with a magnificent century.

The most incredible turnarounds seen in Test history as India bounced back from a deficit to win the second match at the MCG, with Ajinkya Rahane leading from the front with a glorious hundred. Acting Test captain Ajinkya Rahane scored a magnificent century (112 runs off 223 balls) in the second Test against Australia.

After being immersed in all the pressure, senior Indian batsman Rahane scored 112 runs in 223 balls, supported by Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, helping Indias total to a 326 run haul that ultimately proved to be a game-winning effort. In India’s tour to England, Rahane scored two half-centuries, an innings-winning 81 in the third test and 51 in the fourth.

Rahane suffered a long fall from grace after leading India to these scintillating victories, which continued in the South African tour. Rahane made his Test cricket debut against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on 22 March 2013, but was not able to make any significant runs. After making his Test debut in March 2013 against Australia in Delhi, Rahane has represented Team Indias team so far in 73 Tests, where he has scored 4583 runs at an average of 41.28.

While no longer a part of Indias batting order in the shorter formats, Rahane has remained a crucial piece of the Test format, particularly when India has played away from home. On 25 March 2017, Rahane became the 33rd captain of Indias Test team, as he captained the Indian team for their fourth Test match against Australia at Dharamshala, following the injury of Virat Kohli. Rahane was named Indias captain in their 1st Test against New Zealand in November 2021, since Kohli was rested. Rahane has captained in 6 Tests, with 4 wins and 2 draws.
