The first match of the Twenty20 tri-series between Australia, Ireland and Pakistan could not be completed due to rain. In the second match between Australia and Ireland Women, leg-spinner Alana King took a hat-trick to beat Ireland by nine wickets.

King took a hat-trick in the first T20I against Pakistan over the weekend, finishing with 3-8 in just 4 overs before rain stopped play for good, and was then followed by the young lady’s bowler in four overs against Ireland. He took three wickets for nine runs.

Darcy Brown (2-9 in four overs) was also impressive as Ireland finished their 20 overs at 8-99, which Australia chased down in 13 overs.

With skipper Meg Lanning (39* off 33), there was enough time for Beth Mooney to score 45 not out off 33 balls in one stroke of her 12th T20I half-century. Opening seamer Jane Maguire’s overs saw the Australian batsmen hit a lot of runs. For Ireland, Arlene Kelly took the wicket of opener Alyssa Healy for 19 runs in 3 overs.

Ireland’s innings had a disappointing start, with Ireland losing three wickets within the fifth over – opener Gabby Lewis caught in deep in the last ball of Megan Schutt’s opening over, Orla Prendergast and captain Laura Delany were bowled by Darcy Brown in successive overs.

King entered the attack in the seventh over and trapped Rachel Delaney (1) lbw on her fourth ball, and seamer Nicola Carey also hit her first volley as Mary Waldron stunned Schutt while playing her over cover for 7 runs.

Four balls later, King clean bowled Rebecca Stokel. Ireland’s top-order batsman scored 22 runs, although the fielding side contributed more with 23 extra runs.

In fact, the next wicket came at the end of the most expensive over of the innings, when Tahlia McGrath sent four wides and conceded eight leg byes and a single, but Kelly (5) was eventually caught at mid-off by Brown.

Alana King completed her three-wicket haul when she dismissed Leah Paul (12) in the first ball of the 19th over. Ireland’s tail-enders batted but could not take the team to the score of 100.
