Read for the friendlies
Uruguay is ready to face its next two friendlies. After the fatal outcome in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they failed to get past the group stage, the ‘charrúa’ team faces a revolution in their squad. Fede Valverde and Ronald Araujo head a list with the more than notable absences of Álvaro Rodríguez, Godín, Josema Giménez, Luis Suárez or Edinson Cavani . The charrúa rebellion is already here.
Faded golden generation
Uruguay’s gold generation seems to have faded. The poor performance of Diego Alonso’s team in the World Cup seems to have touched a historic team, where he never managed to demonstrate the quality that was treasured. Marcelo Broli seems to have opted for new faces in pursuit of seniority, with the debut on the list of Joaquín Piquerez, Felipe Carballo and Marías Arezo. Unlike Mano Menezes with Brazil, the Celeste coach has not used the U20 team to complete the list, leaving out players like Luciano Rodríguez, Fabricio Díaz or Álvaro Rodríguez. In the list do end up appearing the 12 world champions, led by Sergio Rochet, Sebastian Coates, Matthias Vina, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Matthias Olivera, Matthias Vecino, Facundo Pellistri, Agustin Canobbio, Facundo Torres, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Darwin Nunez or Maxi Gomez.
