Ancelotti already knows about the starting XI for the final

Although Real Madrid have the small matter of another Champions League final to plan for, Carlo Ancelotti first has to see his side through their last LaLiga game of the season. Los Blancos host Real Betis on Friday night at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Ancelotti will be hoping that his players avoid any unnecessary injuries ahead of the trip to face Liverpool in Paris. Looking beyond the Betis game, Ancelotti already knows how he’ll set his side up in the final. “I have no doubts about the starting XI in Paris,” Ancelotti said when quizzed about lining up his team in the final, which is still a week away. “My only doubt is about who will play a more important part, those who start or those who finish the game.”

Real Madrid want to win the 14th UCL final

With the title wrapped up since April, Real Madrid have been able to take things relatively easy of late. Liverpool, meanwhile, will have the Premier League decided on the final day of the season. “Indeed, they’re still fighting for the league title,” Ancelotti responded when asked whose position he’d rather be in. “We’ve had more time to think about this game. But we haven’t thought about it and we won’t until Monday. But we have everything ready. Real Madrid fans are excited about the Champions League final, and we want to win the 14th. Nothing else.” In the game against Betis, Ancelotti didn’t give much away about his XI, leaving his words very much open to interpretation. “I’m thinking about giving minutes to the players who need them,” Ancelotti explained. “David Alaba will train with the rest of the group from Monday onwards.”

The Italian also faced questions about Gareth Bale in light of this week’s game and his future. “Bale has trained but isn’t at 100 per cent,” Ancelotti stated. “We’ll see if he can make the bench, but tomorrow I’ll have to leave two in the stands. He may make the bench, but he may not. His contract is up, and whether he plays tomorrow or not isn’t important. He’s part of this club’s history, and he’ll always be part of this club’s history. Bale has been an important player in Champions League finals in Copa del Rey finals. It’s only right that everybody recognises that.”
