Christensen has said goodbye to his club
Andreas Christensen is waiting for Barcelona to make his signing official. The Danish centre-back and Franck Kessie, both of whom remain free, are two deals that have been completed and are awaiting formalisation. The 26-year-old defender has said goodbye this afternoon, through social media, to Chelsea, the club he joined in the 2012/13 season when he was just 16 years old. Christensen said goodbye with the following text next to a photo of himself in a Chelsea shirt kissing the Champions League trophy won in the 2020/21 campaign. “Thank you for everything. At the age of 16, I had to make the difficult decision to leave Denmark. There was only one option for me, and that was Chelsea,” he began.
Barcelona hope to make the signing of Christensen official this week
“From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel at home; I am grateful to Jim Fraser and Neil Bath, who immediately took me in as part of their family. Some of my proudest moments at the club were when we won the FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League. It was a particular group of young players that I was proud to have as teammates. Last year, it was my proudest moment as a player and as a team when we lifted the Champions League in Porto. At Chelsea, I was a young kid with all the hopes and fears of a player starting his career; I am grateful to the whole club for making my dream come true.
“After spending ten incredible years at this club, I felt it was the right time for a new start for my family and me. Mentally, the last few months have been tough, as leaving this club and the fans has not been an easy decision.”
