The Gunners are looking into a late deal to sign Aston Villa player Douglas Louis before Thursday night’s transfer deadline.

A little about Douglas Louis

Arsenal are pushing to bring in another midfielder due to injuries sustained by Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has worked with Douglas Luiz before during their time with the Citizens and the Brazilian midfielder is believed to be keen to reunite with the Spaniard in north London.

Douglas scored for Aston Villa against the Gunners in their 2-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. But Douglas Luiz has less than one year left on his current contract and has so far resisted attempts by Aston Villa to get him to sign a new deal.

What did Gerrard say about Douglas Luiz?

Speaking about the Brazilian’s future after Wednesday night’s game, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard said he was not in control. There are more than two people who control this and Steven is not one of them. According to Gerrard, he would like to keep the Brazilian, Douglas Luiz is a fantastic player. Steven made this very clear.

Aston Villa head coach says they are not in a position where they need to lose their best players, but at the same time Luiz got a year and it’s one of those touching situations where the club has to do what’s best for the club, not necessarily what is best for him.

A little about the topic

It would be a smart signing for the Gunners if they can entice Aston Villa into doing business. Mikel knows the Brazilian well and at 24 fits the profile of the type of player that Arsenal want to bring to the club. Douglas wouldn’t replace Thomas Partey if a Ghanaian fit, but he would certainly improve the squad and bring more competition into the midfield.

What will happen after this for the Gunners?

At the top of the table, the Gunners travel to the Red Devils on Sunday, trying to make it six straight league wins at the start of the season for only the second time in the club’s history.
