Arsenal awaits response after second proposal for Lisandro Martinez
The Gunners are awaiting a response from Ajax after submitting a second offer for the Argentine player.
Arsenal offers to Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez has become a priority target for Arsenal this summer as Arteta looks to add to their defensive ranks. the Gunners already had one offer turned down for a defender, but now they’re back with an improved bid for the Argentinian, who Ajax are now swearing at.
The Gunners’ original bid for Lisandro was around £29m. This was immediately rejected by Ajax, but an improved proposal has now arrived. Sources close to Lisandro Martinez say the second bid is believed to be around £35m plus bonuses. While still appreciating Ajax, Martinez is interested in a move to the PL this summer and awaits news of the Dutch club’s response.
Arsenal is not the only club
The Gunners are not the only club that holds a significant interest in Lisandro, with Man Utd also keen. The current manager of Man Utd has worked with Lisandro Martinez, who can operate as a centre, left-back or defensive midfield, during his stay in Amsterdam and is open to the possibility of taking him to Old Trafford. Man Utd asked to be kept up to date with Lisandro developments while they prepare an offer, with their focus on securing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Arsenal’s interest in other players
Having already brought Vieira from Porto, the Gunners are now on the verge of completing their move for Gabriel Jesus. A £45million deal has been agreed for the Man City striker and the deal will go through this week once he passes his medical. Attention will then turn to trying to win the race for Raphinha, with Leeds United already turning down Arsenal’s bid for the winger.
The Gunners are expected to return with an improved offer for the 25-year-old, who is also wanted by Barcelona, the Spurs and the Blues. Offensive rebuilding is the Gunners’ priority this summer, but midfielder Youri Tielemans remains on the radar. The Gunners’ interest in the Belgian player has cooled in recent weeks as they focus on getting line deals for other purposes, but they may still be back for Youri by the end of the window depending on what other business they do.
