Arsenal is expected to offer manager Mikel Arteta a new three-year contract in the summer in order to cement his future at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s contract in north London expires in the summer of 2023, but owner Stan Kroenke is said to have faith in him.

According to reports, the Gunners are planning to offer the 39-year-old Spaniard, who is presently the Premier League’s youngest manager, a £25 million deal once the current season ends.

The new contract will pay him £8.3 million per year; an increase of £3.3 million from his current £5 million income, which is the same amount as former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was paid when he left the club in 2018.

Following the club’s FA Cup victory in September 2020, the former midfielder’s job title was elevated from first-team coach to manager. But there is no indication that this was followed by a compensation increase.

However, Arteta has made great development since last season, when he was fighting for his job at times.

Although Arteta was observed in Denver last month where he attended face-to-face negotiations with billionaire owner Kroenke and his son Josh, he maintained in December that no talks over a new deal had taken place.

Last year, Arteta responded, “No, we haven’t considered anything like that.” ‘I think we have a lot of other objectives right now that are far more essential.’

‘I’m not sure [if we’ll meet in the summer], and I’m not thinking about it.’ I’m just trying to get the most out of the team and deal with all of the problems we’re in right now. Things will unfold in their own time.’

In December 2019, Arteta took over for fellow Basque Unai Emery, and in his 26 months in charge, he has completely overhauled his squad.
