The fifth test of the Ashes 2021-2022 series was not less than a thriller as both the teams put their best efforts to win but Australia’s stunning pace attack helped them to wrap up England’s innings within 22 overs & win the match by massive 146 runs to clinch the series by 4-0.

Ashes 2021-2022, 5th Test

Cameron Green starred for Australia who registered three wickets haul in addition to scoring a crucial 23 runs in Australia’s second innings to help the hosts clinch the final Ashes test by 146 runs & win the Ashes by 4-0. At one point it seemed like England will save their dignity by registering their first win of the Ashes series when fast bowler Mark Wood’s six-wicket haul help to wrap up Australia’s innings for 155 runs in their second innings after which openers Zak Crawley & Rory Burns put up a partnership of 68 runs to give three lions a stunning start.

However, Australia’s pacers pounced back & got the better of England by reducing them from 68/0  to 124 all out in just 22 overs to clinch the Ashes 2021-2022 with 4-0. England lost all their nine wickets in the nighttime session of the second pink ball test by getting bowled at 124 & ending the series with another collapse. England looked helpless in front of Australia’s pace attack throughout the Ashes & couldn’t stand Aussie’s pace attack when facing the pink ball under the lights of Bellerive Oval.

The Brisbane, Adelaide & Melbourne test was won by Australia

Cameron Green started the riot with the ball by removing Rory Burns for 26 to break Zak-Rory’s blooming partnership just before the tea break. He continued the riot by dismissing Dawid Malan for 10 runs post tea break. Zak Crawley was Green’s third trap who was removed for 36 & when Ben Stokes holed out for five to Nathan Lyon at deep square leg off Mitchell Starc, England had lost four wickets for 24 runs.

Joe Root came for England’s rescue & guided their side over 100 runs mark but soon fell for 11 when Scott Boland’s delivery skidded low along the surface & went into his off-stumps, forcing Joe Root to walk back home without bagging a century in Australia. Then Boland & Cummins led Aussie’s pace attack & shared the next five wickets as England’s batting order strangled thereby ending every hope of extending the contest into the fourth day.

Earlier, England’s star pacer Mark Wood made the most of pace conditions by finishing with his career-best 6-37 to help three lions bowl out the hosts for 155 early in the second session. However, all his efforts went in vain as England’s batsmen couldn’t withstand the host’s strong pace attack & soon got bowled for 124 runs within 22 overs to lose the Ashes series with a humiliating score. The Brisbane, Adelaide & Melbourne test was won by Australia while the fourth test in Sydney was drawn after England batted out the final day.

Ashes 2021-2022, 5 Test, Brief scores
