India’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign suffered a major setback as they suffered yet another last-over defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday (September 6). The Men in Blue have now lost two games in a row in the Super 4 stage of the competition and will now rely on the other team to advance.

While India will face a big fight to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2022, it still has a chance of not getting out of the competition. However, India’s campaign will end with Pakistan’s win against Afghanistan in Sharjah on Wednesday (September 7) and a confirmed Pakistan-Sri Lanka final on Sunday (September 11).

If Afghanistan win the match against Pakistan, India will remain in the race to reach the final. That would require India to win their last league stage game against Afghanistan on Thursday (September 8). If India is able to do so and Sri Lanka beat Pakistan on Friday (September 10), the Men in Blue will reach the pinnacle if they are able to beat Pakistan and Afghanistan on net run rate in the table as it leaves all three. Teams with one point each.

India’s campaign has taken a dramatic turn, starting the campaign with two wins in the group stage to qualify for the Super 4 stage with wins over Pakistan and Hong Kong as group winners. The two Super 4 games followed the same script, with Team India losing with one ball to spare and the bowlers failing to control the game.

Talking about the game against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma gave the team a great foundation with an innings of 71 runs in 42 balls. However, apart from a solid 34 by Suryakumar Yadav, he did not get enough support from any other batsman with the failures of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, followed by tremendous innings from Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda.
