A little about Rodrigo Bentancur

Aston Villa are building interest in the Bianconeri’s Rodrigo Bentancur, with the PL outfit sending scouts to watch the Uruguayan in action against Milan. Gerrard is eager to further strengthen their ranks at Villa Park before the winter transfer window closes, with any business to be completed before the next deadline passes on January 31st. Rodrigo has caught the eye of the West Midlands and efforts have been made to establish whether the 24-year-old is the right man for a fresh start in England.

It is understood that no formal approach has yet been taken by Villa, and the Bianconeri are still waiting for a formal proposal. Chief scout Willans, however, was there to glimpse Bentancur in a tough Serie A match at the San Siro on Sunday. He saw the South American double in 89 minutes of action, with Allegri only replacing him with Rabiot in the closing stages of a 0-0 draw. Rodrigo’s performance will stand out as he helped contain the threat posed by Milan in dealing with Italian player Locatelli.

Will the deal take place?

Rodrigo has started 13 Serie A games for Juventus this season and has made 26 appearances in all competitions. Rodrigo Bentancur is clearly in Massimiliano’s plans, but a tempting offer from afar could tempt Juventus to sanction a sale. Villa, however, will not easily reach an agreement that satisfies all parties because a sale clause was included in the deal that took Bentancur to Turin from Boca Juniors in 2017.

Initially, this reservation was 50 percent, but over the four and a half years spent by the top-rated performer in Italy, it has decreased slightly. Boca, however, still owes 35 percent of any fee the Bianconeri generates from offloading Rodrigo, which could mean Ville will have to dig deep to find suitable terms. Steven Gerrard’s side have advanced to 11th in the PL table, 10 points off the top six, and will not be back in action until they face Leeds on 9 February as the English top flight takes the winter break.
