French footballer Lucas Digne will join Gerrard’s ranks at Villa Park after falling out with Toffees head coach Benitez

A little about the topic

Aston Villa has negotiated a £ 25m deal to sign the Frenchman from Everton. Lucas spent three and a half years in the Everton books after signing with Barcelona in the summer of 2018, playing 127 games in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit. Lucas Digne was a key player in the squad until the public aftermath with head coach Benitez in December, with Chelsea also initially infatuated with the Frenchman, choosing not to make an official bid.

Lucas will undergo a medical examination with Villa on January 12 after the two clubs agreed on a £ 25m deal. Chelsea was also interested in the left-back, although they chose not to propose as they focus on recalling Emerson from his loan spell with Lyon. Indeed, the Blues saw an application for £ 3.3m to terminate a loan agreement rejected by a Ligue 1 party that is determined to preserve international Italy.

Lucas, meanwhile, could debut alongside Barça tenant Coutinho when Steven Gerrard’s team took over Man Utd in the Premier League on January 15th. It is clear that Newcastle was also interested in a deal for France International, although it is now ready to join Villa and compete with Targett for a left-back spot.

Lucas Digne’s activities

Lucas began his career at home with Lille back in 2010 and spent three years at Stade Pierre-Mauroy before being dismantled by PSG.Lucas Digne only 44 appearances in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain and was eventually sold to Barcelona for € 17 million in 2016 after a loan spell in Roma.

The French player was never able to maintain a regular spot in the starting XI Barça, but found legs after joining Everton and proved that he can perform on a consistent basis at Premier League level. Villa fans will be hoping Lucas Digne can rediscover his best form as they look to make their way back to the top half of the table in the second half of the season.
