Australia Gives A Mighty Blow To Pakistan In The First ODI
Australia defeated Pakistan by 88 runs in the first ODI played at Lahore Stadium.
Not every day you see these kinds of innings. Travis Head bolstered in the first 25 overs scoring his second century in just 70 balls. It was his second century and interestingly both came against Pakistan.
Australia Faces Another Loss Ahead Of ODI Series Against Pakistan
The brand new Pakistani pace attack dished short and full length deliveries. Travis Head never looked hesitant to take full advantage of an inexperienced bowling attack until he got out.
Babar Azam won the toss and asked Aaron Finch to bat first. Australia started with a flyer, scoring 72 runs in the first 10 overs. At the time, Pakistan was completely out of the game but their spinners did well to keep things under reach. From 28th over, Australia started to lose grip of the match. However, Travis Head (101), McDermott (55) and Green (40) provided enough runs that proved more than enough for Pakistan.
Chasing a target of 315, the ideal start is a high scoring partnership. Pakistan lost their opener at 25. Substantially, they built a partnership but it was never on a chasing path. The required run rate kept getting higher and higher while Pakistan felt shackled. Credit to Australia for the way they bowled when middle overs were wicketless for them.
Captain Babar Azam scored a good knock of 57 but never looked settled on the pitch. Imam-ul-Haq played a centurion knock of 103 runs but it was never going to be enough in a chase of 314 runs. Wickets kept falling at the other end. Pakistan was well under pressure because Zampa and debutant Ellis bowled really well. There was a bit of dew but Australian bowlers trusted their line and lengths and executed it with precision.
Adam Zampa bagged 4 wickets and gave only 38 runs. Debutant Swepson bagged the key of Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and concluded the inning of Pakistan with the final wicket of Haris Rauf. Pakistan was bowled out for 225.
The next ODI will be played at the same stadium. Pakistan missed certain top performers so did Australia. The big trick they missed while chasing was not to include a big hitter experienced all rounder.
