Mark Waugh and Greg Chappell, two of Australia’s best players, talk about their success in Pakistan ahead of Pat Cummins’ team’s toughest test yet.

When Australia is about to tour Pakistan next month. There, they will face one of their toughest tests ever. Additionally, a new coach has taken over after paramount Ashes victory. The inexperienced captain Pat Cummins will face a big challenge because Australia hasn’t won series wins in six years.

The challenge becomes even more complete when we take in account that Australia hasn’t toured Pakistan in the last 24 years. Only 5 tests have been played there after successful reopening of test matches in 2019. Pakistan has always been a struggle for the visitors.

Waugh is the most recent Australian to score three figures in Test cricket in Pakistan. In a test match in Karachi in 1998, he scored 117 in the third inning which helped team Australia to register a draw.

His measures were upright and under the Captaincy of Mark Taylor, Australia secured their one and only win in Pakistan in the last 60 years.

Team Australia is currently taking its lesson from greats on how to tackle the challenges of the sub-continent. Greg Chappell is another legend who is sharing his wisdom on bowling conditions of Pakistan.

Challenges in Pakistan

When bowling in Pakistan, spin, fast and reverse swing, everything comes into play. These conditions can baffle anyone and put the opponent in drastic pressure.

During a team talk, Waugh also praised Pakistan’s left-arm paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi, who he feels could provide issues for Australia’s left-handers.

Australian opener David Warner has always struggled against left arm attack. Shaheen Shah’s delivery angle, pace, and ability to move the ball away will definitely trouble a number of Australian players.

There’s no denying England’s performance (in the four-nil Ashes defeat). Australia was competent and capitulated every moment that came their way.

England didn’t present much of a challenge. In Pakistan, many Australian players have never gone before, it will be considerably more difficult because they are not acquainted with the cricketing environment of Pakistan.
