Batting first, England posted 327 runs on board. Not a type of wicket where you win the toss and elect to chase but Bangladesh captain gave this luxury to English batters and they made the best out of it.
Jason Roy scored a 100 after 4 innings, there was a bit of criticism about his miss and hit innings but now he has 13 ODI hundreds for England, one in every 9 innings which is best by lot after Joe Root. And evidently, he prefers this Bangladeshi side, one can remember of 2019 World Cup where he scored 153 runs.
Now grabbing the opportunity in the second ODI, the aggressive opener smashed 132 of 124 balls. It must have felt like deja vu to struggling Bangladeshi bowlers, 4 of then conceded more than 6 runs an over.
England lost Philip Salt early in the innings but 58 runs partnership with first match geto Dawid Malan have England the upper hand in game. James Vince could only add 5 runs but the captain Jos Buttler provided the momentum that the typical English side carries in ODIs with 64 balls 76.
Bangladeshi bowlers were off the right Mark throughout the innings as they felt the pressure of bowling Jason Roy and Jos Buttler simultaneously. Roy was removed by Shakib but a little late for the team.
Wickets fell but England continued to go with the momentum and Moeen Ali with his 42 off 35 balls closed all doors for Bangladeshi bowlers to make a comeback. A brief late hitting from Sam Curran helped England to post 327 runs on the board.
A Chase Gone Horribly Wrong For Bangladesh
Sam Curran is most prolific on these kind of pitches. And Bangladesh had no plans on how to start the chase. They were 1 for 2 in first over, Curran dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das on successive deliveries. Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim nicked one to Buttler in Curran’s second over.
From 9/3, the loss looked inevitable to Bangladesh. A small partnership was there between Shakib Al Hassan and Tamim Iqbal but it really never got get going. Espically, Tamim struggled to rotate the strike and subsequently gifted his wicket to Moeen Ali in desperation after scoring 35 in 65 balls.
Sam Curran and Adil Rashid were brilliant with the ball, both sharing four wickets each. Curran hunted the middle order while Rashid showed the way to pavillion to middle order.
Only Shakib showed some fight with his 58 runs but that was never going to be enough in 327 runs chase. Both sides will meet for another ODI, England already won the series so, Bangladesh will play for amour propre.
