The league’s giants will sign Spanish footballer 21-year-old Ferran Torres in the January transfer window and will now seek to trim their squad.
Agreement reached to sign Ferran Torres
Barcelona have negotiated a € 55m deal to sign Man City winger, 21-year-old Spain player. Ferran Torres, who has not played for Man City since September due to a foot injury, is set to join Xavi’s in January despite the Catalans’ financial woes. Barça will now have to focus on unloading the players from their first squad as they want to comply with La Liga financial fair play rules.
Barça has reached an agreement with Man City to sign Ferran Torres, with both clubs to officially announce the news in the coming days. Barça’s football director Mateu Alemany has taken up negotiations with the 21-year-old Spanish international who is looking to return to his homeland after leaving Valencia in August 2020.
The League club will pay an initial installment of € 55 million for Ferran Torres, with an additional amount of around € 7 million to follow in the additions. Man City requested an amount approaching € 70 million for the player, but ultimately settled for a slightly lower fee. Valencia will receive 10% of the transfer, adding this clause to its agreement with Man City last year, plus an additional 4%.
A little about the situation in Barca
Barcelona’s financial troubles have been well documented and players will now have to leave urgently to secure Ferran Torres’ registration in La Liga. Sergio Aguero’s decision to retire due to heart disease frees up his salary, with others needing unloading, either rent or, more preferably, constant transfers. Barça will be listening to offers for many of their first squad, besides a few untouchables, including Ansu Fati, Gavi and Pedri, with big paychecks including Philippe Coutinho and Samuel Umtiti in a shop window.
