Barcelona have yet to reach an agreement on a new contract with German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The salary amount is named as a reason.
According to a person close to Barcelona, the Spanish press reported that it would be difficult to reach an agreement between the Catalan club and the German goalkeeper. Although both sides agree to extend the contract, Barça are currently facing financial problems due to a worldwide coronavirus. So, they are having negotiations with the player in a difficult time.
Earlier it was reported that Barcelona had offered Ter Stegen a contract extension until March 2024 and a salary of € 6.5m ( bonuses). But Ter Stegen declined, as the German believes he is an integral part of the team. So, he should be valued.
According to Diario Sport, the 27-year-old German goalkeeper wants to stay in Barcelona, but demands a pay raise.
However, the parties maintain good relations with each other, and Barcelona will do their best not to lose anyone.
Does Chelsea have a chance to transfer Ter Stegen?
Recall that Ter Stegen has a contract with the club until the summer of 2022. His ransom is worth 180 million euros.
There are also reports that Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ordered the club’s board not to have to wait for a contract extension with the German goalkeeper.
Note that Mark-André has a valid contract until June 30, 2022. Chelsea’s London has already been interested in Ter Stegen. You may know that the club is looking for a substitute for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Transfermarkt estimates the player at 90 million euros. But the German keeper prefers to stay in Barca.
