Barcelona Interested in Signing Bernardo Silva of Manchester City
According to rumours, Barcelona is interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva and may offer a swap deal involving Netherlands player Frenkie de Jong.
Last summer, the Portugal international, Bernardo Silva was approached by Barcelona, but he ultimately decided to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Since coming from Monaco in 2017, the 27-year-old has not always been a regular for the Citizens, but he has 11 goals and five assists this season.
According to reports. the Catalan giants are interested in acquiring Silva, and due to their financial difficulties, they may give midfielder de Jong in exchange. The trade might benefit both sides, with City manager Pep Guardiola a big fan of de Jong and a desire to spice things up after a sad Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid.
Three years ago, the Spaniard intended to buy de Jong from Ajax, but Barcelona beat them to it.
Despite Silva’s importance to the Citizens this season, they may be tempted, or they may just restart their interest if Barca is forced to sell the 24-year-old due to financial restrictions.
De Jong has a £58 million price tag attached to him, with Manchester United also showing interest.
De Jong was on the verge of joining Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in 2019 — members of his family having examined residences in the region — before deciding on the Catalan giants.
Fernandinho, the club captain, has stated that he will leave in the summer, ending his legendary nine-year stint and leaving a significant vacuum in City’s midfield.
After largely deploying just five midfielders across three different positions this season, manager Guardiola is thought to be keen on bolstering his midfield in the summer.
