Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide Strikers put on another sensational performance against Sydney Thunder in the BBL 2021-22 Knockout match to record their sixth consecutive win of the tournament.

Sydney Thunder is knocked out of the tournament

With that, they have progressed in the Challenger match, scheduled to take place on Wednesday against Sydney Sixers. Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, is knocked out of the tournament.

Adelaide Strikers, once again, batted first and managed to score a competitive score of 184 runs in the first innings. Alex Carey and Mathew Short added 41 runs inside the first five overs. Carey (23 off 14), unfortunately, couldn’t convert the start into a big score as he became Thunders’ first blood.

Ian Cockbain then joined hands with Short and the two put on a 50-run stand for the second wicket. Short managed to score 39 runs in 28 deliveries, while Ian Cockbain went on to score 65 runs in 38 deliveries.

Once Cockbain got out in the 16th over, the Strikers failed to continue the momentum. Still, Strikers managed to notch a decent total on the board. For Sydney Thunder, Gurinder Sandhu and T Sangha picked two wickets each.

Usman Khawaja failed to convert the start into a big score

Sydney Thunders, in pursuit of the total, didn’t make a great start as Alex Hales got out in the 3rd over of the innings with only 15 runs on the board. Usman Khawaja (23 off 17) failed to convert the start into a big score.

However, Jason Sangha and Alex Ross made a great recovery and at one stage, it looked like Sydney Thunder would chase down the target quite easily. Sangha managed to score 61 runs in 43 balls, while Alex Ross amassed 56 off 39 balls. Jason Sangha got out in the 17th over and Ross didn’t find great support after that.

Ross stayed at the crease till the very last over but the Strikers, eventually, won the game by 6 runs.

Brief Scores: Adelaide Strikers 6 for 184 (Cockbain 65, Short 39, T Sangha 2-15, Sandhu 2-40) beat Sydney Thunder 6 for 178 (J Sangha 61, Ross 56, Conway 2-33, Siddle 2-41) by six runs
