Sydney Sixers take on Adelaide Strikers in the Challengers match of the BBL 2021-22 on Wednesday at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Sydney Sixers
Sydney Sixers have played exceptionally well, much like the last season. They finished the league stage at number two position, however, they are coming into this game on the back of a 48-run defeat at the hands of Perth Scorchers in the Qualifier match. Another defeat would mean that they will be knocked out of the tournament.
Perth Scorchers batted first during that game and posted a mammoth score of 189 runs in the first innings. All the bowlers of Sydney Sixers went for plenty of runs. Hayden Kerr was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 2 wickets but gave away 37 runs.
Sydney Sixers, in reply, were bundled out for just 141 runs in the second innings. Barring Moises Henriques, who made 17 runs, all the other batsmen in the top-seven got out on single-digit scores.
Ben Dwarshius, later, played a stellar 66 run-knock off 29 balls but to no avail. Ahead of a must-win game on Wednesday, Sydney Sixers would look to showcase better performance with both and the ball.
Adelaide Strikers
Facing them are Adelaide Strikers, who are coming into this game on the back of 6 consecutive wins. Their recent form inspires a lot of confidence. Adelaide Strikers beat Sydney Thunders by 6 runs in the Knockout match.
Riding on important contributions from Ian Cockbain (65 off 38), Short (39 off 28), Alex Carey (23 off 14), Adelaide Strikers scored a formidable score of 184 runs in the first innings. In response to the score, Sydney Thunder could only manage to score 178 runs in the second innings, thereby falling 6 runs short of the target. Harry Conway and Peter Siddle were both two wickets each in the match, while Mathew Short and Henry Thornton picked 1 apiece.
