Bangladesh Cricket Board Confident in Hosting ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Despite Political Unrest
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has expressed confidence in hosting the upcoming ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup as scheduled, despite the political unrest in the country. The tournament is set to take place in October 2024, with 10 teams playing 23 matches over 18 days at two venues in Bangladesh.
Monitoring the Situation
Recent reports from Cricbuzz stated that the International Cricket Council is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, where the government had to impose a state of emergency to control unrest following killings and protests on the streets. However, the BCB remains optimistic about the tournament proceeding smoothly.
Preparation in Progress
BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury reassured that the preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup are on track. “We are working accordingly to host the upcoming tournament as planned,” he stated, addressing any speculation surrounding the event.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan and other officials recently attended an ICC meeting in Colombo to discuss the tournament’s logistics. Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, BCB women’s wing chairman, emphasized that they have ample time to organize the event successfully and are hopeful that the situation in the country will improve in the coming days.
“We have seen teams like Australia and England visiting in challenging times before, and we are confident in our ability to host the tournament,” Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel said, highlighting the progress being made in the country.
With continuous efforts and a positive outlook, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is gearing up to host a successful ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in October 2024.
