Jude does not compare himself with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard

Jude Bellingham hopes to avoid comparisons with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, with the 17-year-old midfielder looking to become a star in his time at Borussia Dortmund. The talented teenager has been compared to the Liverpool and Chelsea legends since his success at Birmingham. As a keen runner through the middle of the park, who also has an eye for purpose. It’s easy to see why Bellingham has been placed in the illustrious talent pool. However, he is only 12 months in his senior career and realizes that he has a long way to go. It would be delightful for Gerrard and Lampard to enjoy such success, but there is a hunger on the part of a hot prospect to write his history.

BVB paid $33 million for Bellingham

Bellingham told reporters on the other side of his move to Dortmund: “I’m the first Jude Bellingham, and I don’t want to be compared to Gerrard or Lampard. They were great players, no doubt, but I have different characteristics. I’m a different kind of player and a different person. Big changes are expected of Bellingham, even when taking the Gerrard and Lampard’s talk out of the equation. But Jude says he doesn’t feel any weight of expectation from his transfer fee or under the brightest spotlights. He added: “To be honest, I don’t feel any pressure. The pressure that I feel is greater than any price tag”. Dortmund poured $33 million into Bellingham’s potential by luring him out of Birmingham. He made just 44 senior appearances at the time and was never the gracefully top tier in England, but quickly settled at Bundesliga giants.

The target has been found in the preseason outings, and Bellingham now wants to follow in the footsteps of teammate Jadon Sancho by becoming the last young Englishman to nail a regular role for the German giants. He said of his plans for 2020-21: “I want to get as many minutes of play as possible – even in big games. I want to provide assists, score goals, and perform well”. Dortmund should open their new domestic campaign with a home date against Borussia Monchengladbach on 18 September.
