Ben Stokes shared his thoughts after playing an impressive role in England’s win over Sri Lanka and securing a place in the T20 World Cup semi-finals.

“The main thing is that we are here and playing in the semi-finals of the World Cup. We can learn from all the matches that have been played before that and take them to this match but now we are at the top of the tournament. It’s about turning up and getting better than the other team on the day.

“India are a very good team but we like to focus on ourselves more than the opposition. We know that if we play anywhere close to the potential we got in the dressing room, we are a very tough team to beat.

Against Sri Lanka, Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten 42 off 36 balls as England won over Sri Lanka on Saturday after a middle-order collapse. “I would rather be able to influence the game than sit there and expect someone else to do that,” the all-rounder said.

“I assessed long back that my role in the chase had to be at the end because we all know how important it is to have a batsman when you are chasing the last few overs.

“I think being in situations like these first [helps]. If you think you are under pressure, you just look at the scoreboard and know it’s a run a ball or a boundary away from taking it completely away from them.
