Ben Stokes Speaks On Cohesive Batting Plan For The English Test Summer
The England team has to play a Test series against New Zealand at their home next month. The first Test will be played at Lord’s from June 2 to 6, the second Test at Nottingham from June 10 to 14 and the third Test at Leeds from June 23 to 27. England’s new Test captain Ben Stokes has made a big statement about former Test captain Joe Root. Stokes has said that the former captain will bat at number four.
England’s team has been in dark times due to poor performance for the last 12 months. Due to this, Joe Root also had to step down from the captaincy. Root has been batting at the third order for some time now, but Stokes will come up with a new plan. Root has scored six centuries since 2021, but there was no improvement in the team’s performance.
England will play its first test against New Zealand at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Before that, a cohesive team order is priority for the new skipper. Ben Stokes said about that batting order, ”
“I’ve already spoken with Joe. I’ve asked him to go back to four and I’m going to be at six,” Stokes said.
“Wherever Joe bats he gets runs, but his best position is at four. Joe will probably be averaging 90 now instead of 60 (Root’s average in 2021), so it’ll be good.
“I feel him at four and me at six gives us a bit of experience in that gap. So you can obviously see where the places are opening up for people to put their hands up, it’s three and five.”
“I now feel I have to follow a lot more of the county games now to see who is scoring runs rather than just checking the Durham score.”
“You look at the players who aren’t available through injury – Wood, Archer, Stone, Curran – they’d all be seriously fighting for places,”
“Then you place them among Broady, Jimmy, Robbo, Woakesy…it’s so exciting to think about the team we could put out there if we don’t have any injuries. Unfortunately we do. We just have to pick the best XI we have to choose from and I’ll always make sure we do that,” Ben Stokes added.
