Borussia Dortmund have reportedly decided against re-signing Jadon Sancho and have turned their attention to securing the services of Weston McKennie instead.

Sancho joined Manchester United from Dortmund two years ago for a fee of £73million and has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga giants.

The winger has struggled for consistency during his time at Old Trafford. This has henceforth caused Dortmund to look elsewhere during the summer transfer window.

Sancho is among the players United will consider selling if they receive the right price, which they deem to be around £45m.

Dortmund are keen on signing US international McKennie after watching him develop in Serie A and the Premier League.

The German giants also reportedly believe they don’t need to sign Sancho as they already have 17-year-old wonderkid Julien Duranville.

Dortmund are confident in Duranville’s ability to make a splash next season. This is after signing the youngster on a long-term deal during the last campaign.

McKennie recently returned to Juventus after a six-month loan spell at Leeds United ended in the club being relegated from the Premier League.

The negotiations between Dortmund and McKennie are said to be advancing well.

The USA international performed well during his time with the Juve first team. However, he struggled to cement a place in the starting XI under Massimiliano Allegri.

It’s also common knowledge that the Italian side are looking to offload players in the summer transfer market. They could be open to parting ways to McKennie as a result.

The 24-year-old American made 96 appearances for Juventus. He scored 13 goals and registering five assists before being shipped out on loan.

His last game for the Serie A side came in January when he played a full 90 minutes in Juve’s victory over Atalanta.

McKennie will be eager to secure more regular first team football and Dortmund could provide him with that opportunity.

Dortmund are also confident Duranville’s ability will bring more to the squad than Sancho.

The 17-year-old has represented Belgium at U19 level and turned out for Anderlecht’s senior side on 10 occasions before signing for the German outfit.

He even played 45 minutes against West Ham last summer.

Coming out of Anderlecht’s famed academy – which has produced the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans, Dries Mertens and Vincent Kompany – it’s no wonder Dortmund have high hopes for Duranville.

Nicknamed ‘Blitz’ for his electrifying pace and dribbling, Duranville is expected to make an impact during the 2023-2024 campaign.

News that Dortmund are no longer interested could come as a blow to Sancho. In total Sancho has played 79 times for the Red Devils and scored 12 goals. However, the 23-year-old has continued to fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Sancho has also struggled to cement his place in the Three Lions squad, with his last call up coming in October 2021.
