Borussia Dortmund has ruled out a bid for Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl reiterated that the club would not sign the 37-year-old great, but he did confess that the rumor had resulted in ‘excellent click figures’ on their website.
Although Ronaldo’s presence would almost certainly improve digital stats even more, the Bundesliga’s powerhouses plainly do not want his fan base to dictate their transfer decision.
Ronaldo has been actively looking for a way out of Old Trafford all summer, wanting to play for a team in the Champions League and win more major titles at the end of his career.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was initially linked with transfers to Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but his options have shrunk significantly since submitting his initial transfer request.
Dortmund became the latest team to throw themselves out of contention, despite Kehl admitting that the Red Devils’ star drove ‘excellent click figures.’
‘Cristiano Ronaldo will not come to Borussia Dortmund,’ he said.
“This is correct. The click figures were certainly exceptional, but we’ve done a couple things in the last several days to nail down this notion.’
Despite their lack of enthusiasm, the 42-year-old German praised Ronaldo’s abilities, saying, ‘He is obviously a wonderful player, a world footballer.’
Manchester United and Cristiano face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday evening after a dreadful start to the season, losing 2-1 to Brighton on the opening weekend before being thrashed 4-0 by Brentford last Saturday.
