Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart

Picking out negatives from Leverkusen’s season is tough, but they are one of just four sides averaging fewer points per game at home (1.7) than away, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement at the BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen

Following a five-star performance in a 5-2 blitzing of Dortmund last time out, Champions League-place hopefuls Bayer Leverkusen have now scored more goals than they’ve ever done after 21 games in a Bundesliga campaign (54). Opposition sides have been happy to help out too, with the three own goals scored in Leverkusen’s favour representing a league-high after a Dortmund own goal opened Leverkusen’s scoring last time out. Picking out negatives from Leverkusen’s season is tough, but they are one of just four sides averaging fewer points per game at home (1.7) than away, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement at the BayArena. Scoring goals remains no problem though, as third-placed ‘Die Werkself’ have bagged 17 across their last four home games, albeit they surrendered a lead in both of those draws.

Stuttgart

Relegation appears to be looming for Stuttgart as a 3-2 defeat against Frankfurt last time out made it six league games without a win – their longest winless streak since an identical run in 2019. The only positive during that otherwise torrid run is that Stuttgart did at least end a club-record five-match Bundesliga run without scoring last time out, though they’ll need to improve defensively here against free-scoring Leverkusen if they’re to claim a first Bundesliga H2H win since 2017/18. That’ll be easier said than done as Stuttgart have conceded at least twice in 13 of the last 14 away H2Hs, and have lost a worrying seven of their previous eight trips here! There seems little to suggest things will change for sorry Stuttgart this time, as they’re winless in six of their seven away league games entered as betting outsiders.

Leverkusen’s teenage sensation Florian Wirtz has produced nine Bundesliga assists this term, six for their top league scorer Patrik Schick. Tasked with stopping that potent duo is Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, he scored his side’s first goal in over five league games last time out with his first goal for the club. Leverkusen have been shown a league-high 48 yellow cards (2.29 per match on average).
