Hoffenheim vs Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen have their sights set on hunting second-placed BVB down in the table too, albeit a five-point gap with just two games remaining may prove a bridge too far.

Hoffenheim

By the time kick-off comes on Saturday, it will be over two months since Hoffenheim’s last Bundesliga win. Fortunately for Hoffenheim, they have never been in any real danger of relegation, but their wretched seven-match winless run since early March has left ‘Die Kraichgauer’ six points adrift in the European race. The visit of Bayer Leverkusen to the PreZero Arena could prove timely in ending that torrid run, as Hoffenheim boast three wins from the last five home H2Hs. Sebastian Hoeneß’s side will have to scrub up defensively should they take the lead though, as they’ve squandered five points from winning positions across their last four home league games – including in last weekend’s 4-3 defeat to Freiburg.

Bayer Leverkusen

While Hoffenheim are winless since early March, Leverkusen have collected four wins over the same seven-game league period and know another victory here would secure UEFA Champions League football for next season. Four wins from their last seven away league outings too indicates a victory is a distinct possibility, but falling behind against bottom-placed Greuther Furth in their last away outing shows Leverkusen can be susceptible at times, even if they did storm back to win that match 4-1. That win contributed to Gerardo Seoane’s side averaging an impressive 1.20 points from Bundesliga away games in which they have conceded first – the league’s second-highest average.

Only Borussia Dortmund can better that return, and Leverkusen have their sights set on hunting second-placed BVB down in the table too, albeit a five-point gap with just two games remaining may prove a bridge too far.

David Raum has clocked up four goal involvements across Hoffenheim’s last four home league games, whilst Leverkusen’s Paulinho has seen all three of his away goals this season arrive during the second half. No Bundesliga side has scored more than Hoffenheim’s four second-half stoppage-time goals ahead of this round.
