The only exception across those campaigns was in 2019/20, when they had an identical return after 13 rounds, en-route to finishing one point shy of the European placings.

Monchengladbach

The Bundesliga table looks like it could be upside down at present when considering the pre-season expectations of both Borussia Monchengladbach and Freiburg. European hopefuls Gladbach languish in the bottom half but will move up through a very congested mid-table with another win if they add to their unbeaten competitive home record this term. Impressively from a Gladbach perspective, that seven-game unbeaten run includes a return of 11 goals across their last three matches here, including five against Bayern Munich! However, the starting match favourite (either team) has failed to win eight of their 13 overall league games, suggesting this fixture may not be so straightforward.

Freiburg

Freiburg are flying in fourth ahead of the round, having picked up more points at this stage than during nine of their last ten Bundesliga campaigns. The only exception across those campaigns was in 2019/20, when they had an identical return after 13 rounds, en-route to finishing one point shy of the European placings. The visitors’ look vulnerable in terms of holding on to their European place right now though after three straight defeats, and Freiburg boss Christian Streich will have to record just a second victory over touchline opponent Adi Hutter to reinforce their continental credentials. Interestingly, four of those touchline clashes saw both teams score and over 3.5 match goals!

Jonas Hofmann has scored three times in his last two Gladbach appearances, while four of his seven Bundesliga goals this season have been the second of the game. Meanwhile, Freiburg have not won since Vincenzo Grifo scored and assisted against Fürth. He also scored in a H2H with Gladbach last season. Both teams have scored in six of Streich’s last seven personal H2Hs with Gladbach.
