Ancelotti is coming under pressure in Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be featuring in conversations at Manchester United to become their next boss. The United hierarchy is currently working towards a new manager in place for next season, with current interim boss Ralf Rangnick set to step back into a technical capacity. It had been thought that Luis Enrique, Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino were the three names in the frame, but Real Madrid tactician Ancelotti is also an option. Ancelotti is coming under pressure in the Spanish capital following his side’s poor showing in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain. And his strong relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson – still wielding influence at Old Trafford despite retiring nine years ago – could be a factor. Another could be Ancelotti’s bond with Cristiano Ronaldo, with the pair having experienced success at Real Madrid together, winning the Champions League in 2014.

Pochettino is rumoured to be eyeing a departure from PSG

Whatever the Red Devils decide, it could provoke a managerial merry-go-round, with Pochettino rumoured to be interesting Real Madrid if they opt to remove Ancelotti. However, PSG sporting director Leonardo has revealed that they have never thought about changing their coach. Still, Pochettino himself is rumoured to be eyeing a departure from Ligue 1, with a return to the Premier League his preferred move. Ten Hag has impressive credentials but is perhaps viewed as an outsider for the job, even if his more limited experience at the very highest managerial level might prove a better fit alongside Rangnick. As for Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique, he wouldn’t be available until December, as he wants to take La Roja to the World Cup in Qatar. Leading United’s search for a new boss is football director John Murtough.

“We are now conducting a thorough process for the appointment of a new permanent manager who will take charge this summer to get us back to challenging for those domestic and European titles,” he told fans recently.
