Gareth Bale hasn’t enjoyed a particularly fruitful last couple of seasons at Real Madrid, with the Welshman falling heavily out of favour under previous head coach Zinedine Zidane.

Could not find a form under Jose

He struggled to find form on loan at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2020/21 season and has nearly left the club on several occasions over the last few years, but the return of Carlo Ancelotti could be the turning point for Bale at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale’s future after this summer’s European Championship is uncertain, but he has already spoken of how good his relationship is with Ancelotti, who he worked under during the Italian’s first spell in the Spanish capital. “I can only say that I have a great relationship with him,” Bale said ahead of Wales’ group-stage match against Italy. “He’s a great coach and he’ll do great things at Real Madrid.” The strong bond between the pair could see Bale turn his Real Madrid career around after a rocky relationship with Zidane was one of the main reasons behind him losing his place in Los Blancos’ starting eleven.

A good end to last season

Fans will also be encouraged by how Bale finished the Premier League season with Tottenham, as he scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United and a brace against Leicester City. Ancelotti and Bale have tasted success together before when they won the Champions League and Copa del Rey in 2014, with the Welsh forward scoring in both finals, and the Italian still thinks that Bale can do a job for Real Madrid. “Gareth hasn’t played much in the Premier League, but he did score goals,” Ancelotti said. “He was effective in the final games of the season when he played consistently. He is coming back, I know him well. If he is motivated to play, he can have a great season. I have no doubts.
