Ancelotti’s opportunity
Carlo Ancelotti has the opportunity to close his private circle tomorrow in Seville, the one that began on January 16, 2022 with the victory of Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) against Athletic Club. That was the Italian’s first title in his second spell on the Real Madrid bench (in the first he lifted four titles, including La Décima). In this second he has five: Spanish Super Cup, League, Champions, European Super Cup, Club World Cup… and the Cup is missing, the one that he can win on Saturday, which would mean winning the six possible titles in just 16 months. An almost impossible challenge, so much so that Carletto is the only coach in the history of Real Madrid to have six titles to his credit (he already won the Copa del Rey in his first spell). Not even Zidane could achieve it, he was not able to win the Cup. At the moment Ancelotti has nine titles, which may be ten tomorrow, which would leave him only one behind Zidane and three behind Miguel Muñoz.
First was the Spanish Cup
Madrid scored the first of the six titles in Riyadh against Athletic, clearly: 0-2, thanks to goals from Modric (a kick from the front) and Benzema, from a penalty. Courtois saved a penalty at 89 ‘that prevented them from struggling at the end. And that final was reached after defeating Barcelona in the semifinals 2-3, with a decisive goal from Valverde in extra time.
