Juventus Champions League squad: Can and Mandzukic left out.
The Croatian and the German internationals were the notable absentees from Maurizio Sarri’s list for European competition squad.
Watching the two Juventus players miss out on the Champions League squad is quite disappointing to the fans. Additionally, questions may bombard your mind as to why the two were left out of the Championship. Well, let’s scroll down and find out reasons as to why they had to miss out in the squad.
Why left out?
The new boss, Maurizio Sarri had to select a squad of 22 players from a pool of 26-first team players. The two Juventus players have now paid the price for the club’s failure to trim their squad down this summer.
The Croatian and German international players were not the only ones scrapped out. Captain Giorgio Chiellini is also out of the list. His absenteeism was something to be expected of. The Captain got to be ruled out for six months while undergoing surgery on an interior ligament injury.
Who are in the squad?
Summer signing Matthijs de Ligt, Danilo, Merih Demiral, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and Gianluigi Buffon will participate in the Champions League. Gonzalo Higuain will also feature in the squad after a loan spell at Milan and Chelsea last season.
Paulo Dybala will be in the squad despite his proposed move away from the Serie A champions never materializing in this summer. The Argentine was reportedly said to be in discussions with Tottenham and Manchester United but an agreement could not be reached.
Juventus has been drawn into Group D alongside European heavyweights: Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow where they will try to lift the trophy for the third time.
Fans are looking out for the club to make it out of the group into the knockout stage of the Champions League. Last year, Juventus proved that they are prone to becoming complacent in Europe’s elite competition against Ajax.
On September 18th, Juventus will begin their European campaign against Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano.
