Chelsea could potentially be in line for £ 13m transfer windfall as left-back Emerson Palmieri has agreed an initial loan move to Ligue 1 side Lyon.

The 27-year-old Emerson has had his wish granted of finding more regular first-team football for the 2021/22 season as Tuchel’s reluctance to play the Italian has resulted to him leaving for France.

Despite third-choice left-back Emerson heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door, Chelsea has reported amongst others that the Blues have also included an option to extend his current deal by another year, with his new contract therefore running until 2023.

However, Tuchel never really viewed Emerson as one of those key players for building a dynasty with the Brazilian-born player behind Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old has had some memorable moments at SW6, including scoring against Atletico Madrid in March.

That was a win that went a long way to setting the Blues on track to eventually winning the competition, with a narrow 1-0 victory in Porto against Manchester City proving enough to gift Roman Abramovich his second Champions League title of his reign as owner.

Emerson followed up that success by adding international silverware in July following Italy’s success at the European Championships.

However, despite the great successes he’s had in the last year, a move to France shouldn’t come as a real surprise with the ex-Roma defender recently hinting at a possible move away this summer.

Commenting on the transfer, Emerson said: “I want to play, I know I can be out on the pitch, I’ve proved that.

“So I’m going to do everything I can to be on the pitch. Of course, I still have two more years on my contract with Chelsea, which is a great club.

“I’ve already proved that I can play here, but at the same time I want to be on the pitch. I want to play, I want to feel important, like I already did.

“I want to have the same feeling I felt when I scored against Atletico Madrid, to have the same feeling when I won the Champions League.”

Emerson joins the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud and many others in being shown the exit door in this transfer window, as the German boss ruthlessly aims to trim his congested Chelsea squad ahead of a potential Premier League title challenge this season.
