Thomas Tuchel admits that Chelsea is in “regular” talks with Haaland as he says he would have “no problem” using him in a front two with Lukaku.
Along with Kylian Mbappe, Haaland is regarded as the most exciting attacking talent in the world of football. The youngster is expected to leave Dortmund in the coming months with a relatively affordable £64 million release clause in his contract.
As expected, after signing Romelu Lukaku in the summer for £97m, many believed the Blues would no longer be interested in Haaland. However, it seems Chelsea is in the hunt to acquire his signature next summer as revealed by coach Tuchel who says he would have “no problem” playing him and Lukaku in the same team.
He said, “we have talked about Haaland a couple of times also in the transfer window. It looked unrealistic and not possible to do”.
“Of course, we talk regularly about him because he is a fantastic player and a prolific at Dortmund which is a big rival for us in the Champions League”.
The 21-year old Haaland is “flying” at Dortmund with 18 goals in 13 appearances for club and country this season. His failure to score against Ajax on Tuesday night ended an eight-match goalscoring run, but he remains the most highly sought-after player in Europe.
With his release clause standing at just £64m – a snip in today’s market for a player of his quality – there is expected to be a long queue of admirers trying to secure his signature in January, or next summer.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are among the English clubs credited with an interest, while Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG have also been linked with the forward.
